PROTECTING YOUNG GIRLS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln Thursday's "Post," under the heading "Crime Punished," I read with interest the case of Thomas William MacAuley, who indecently assaulted two girls five years of age. Mr. Justice Ostler said he was prepared to assume that drink was the cause of the offences. The only thing in accused's favour was that he had pleaded guilty and saved the girls from coming to Court, so he was given one year's hard labour for each charge. Well, Sir, if that is. a fit punishment for that class of crime I do not think adequate protection is given to New Zealand's girlhood. —I am, etc., A FATHER OF THREE N.Z. GIRLS.
