HAWKE CUP MATCHES

LIFE-SAVING CLUB

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

NELSON, 7th November

The Golden Bay branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union have nominated Mr. Albert Edward Fowler for the position of primary producers' representative on the Unemployment Board.

The annual meeting of the Nelson District Cricket Association elected the following officers:—President, Mr. AY. B. Griffin; vice-presidents, presidents of all the sub-associations; executive, Messrs. E. K. Neale, C. Kinzett, and J. Newman (Nelson), E. Trevena (Motueka), R. Eyles (Tapawera), A. Robinson (Takaka), AY. Ma>: and A. Newman (Waimea), H. Askew (Midland); sole selector, Mr. T. Louisson; hon. secretary, Mr. E. R. Neale; delegate to Cricket Council, Mr. J. R. Clark. It was decided that at present Nelson would not support the Manawatit Association's suggestion to the New Zealand Cricket Council that the Hawke Cup elimination system be taken a further stage in order to reduce the possible challengers from eight to four, all of whom would get a challenge each year. In the proposed new grouping Nelson and Marlborough were grouped with AVest Coast and Buller. The members of the local association considered that it would be impossible to get a team to travel as far as the Coast for a preliminary match, and then for the members of the team to pay their expenses again for another trip iv quest of the Cup. A. Surf and Life-Saving Club has been formed at Tahuna Beach. Officers have been elected as follow: President, Mr. AY. J. Moffatt; chairman of committee, Mr. J. IT. Moore; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. O. lxothwell; commiltecmen (from ten nominations after a ballot), Messrs. Hume, E Cootc, R. Lucas, A. AY. M'llwraith, Sutherland, and C. J. Brown; trustees, Messrs. E. D. Barry, A. Ribonsnn. and J. H. Moore. Mr. J. Newport, of the AVorser Bay Club, has promised to spend the Christmas holidays in Nelson and help the club during his stay.
