"A FORMIDABLE LIST"
Missing a train, said his counsel, Mr. K. Watterson, George Cecil Horry, a meter reader, aged 23, stole a car in Auckland and drove to Wellington, and here ho booked a passage to Sydney. "While here Horry attempted to pass a valueless cheque, and to obtain goods by means of a false pretence. His effort, however, failed, but it put him into the hands of the police, and to-day Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M., sentenced him to dx months' imprisonment for the false pretence charge. "He has quite a formidable list extending from 1923," said the Magistrate. On the charge of theft of the motorcar, valued at £400, Horry, who pleaded guilty, was remanded to appear at Auckland on 12th November.
