MENDIP TAKES ON HURDLES
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") lIAWERA, This' Day. As most Hawera horses have no engagements till the Levin ■ and Feilding Meetings, there has not lately been much activity on the track. Mr. 11. Spratt's Mendip vrus given a turn over the schooling hurdles on Tuesday, and shaped veil for a beginner. Goldfindcr, by Rnapapa from a Stewards' Handicap •winner, Infill, is one of the most forward two-year-olds here, and she is to have her first start at Feilding on the second day. Sright Glow is doing steady, pace work ')
again, and may compete at the Waikato Meeting. Green Linnet is also to make the trip if her stablcmate goes. Royal Acre has recovered from his fall at Trentham, and was out on Thursday morning doing pace work. . Orazone has had an easy time since Waverley, but will be sent along with a view to being raced at Levin, Denier, Goblin Market, and Tenacre, three new hurdlers, are being kept up to the collar, and will be well seasoned for jumping rpecs at Christmas time. W. Pine has also been schooling the Bisogne gelding Homewood with a view to hurdling later on. Silver Rule continues to do well in her track exercises, and will be asked to go along more seriously on her trainer's (J. Brown's) return from Eiccarton. Awaken was to have accompanied Silvermine to Riccarton, but at the last moment it was decided not to take the filly, who, however, is looking in good order. Mr. A. Alexander has just returned from a trip, and was not at Christchurch to see Silvermine run in the Stewards' today.
