ARE FARMERS .BENEFITING? ■Mr. '11. Stewart, as president of the Auckland Chamber "of Commerce, deals with Export Control'Boards in his November "Message." His shows how the Dairy. Board collected last year by. way of levy £39,063 9s 9d, and, the' Meat. Board £36,568 19s' Id by the same .means, a total of £75 632 8s 8d; "and that .they hold between them an aggregate'of'.£ 119,404 17s 3d in accumulated funds. In view of these resources and the state of the overseas mar- • kets, the president asks: "Does it not appear advisable that the levy should ,be dropped by each board for this year? A . further' saving could' be effected if the two boards were amalgamated, thus reduc--1 ing the-number.of,members, and effecting savings'- to cost' of ■ administration, such _as . honoraria and travelling expenses, which lastyear'totalled'£Bo47' 2s sd."'' :_. He also questions whether'the financier is receiving the full benefit of the levies, admitting the boards' claims to have effected a saving ot ,2% per cent, on freights, the president asks: ■ "Are these savings not trifling when one takes into account increasing quantities handled each year?" Complaint is made of the continued price disparity/ of Danish 'arid'New Zlbalaud buti.r. and-of-the. little/effort made by the Meaij Board to rationalise loadings from New~ Zealand, ports. .. ■
