YOUNG WOMAN'S OFFENCE The purchase of somo clothing in another woman's name led to the appearance of Freda Joan Griffiths before Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court 10-day. The accused, who was described as a shop assistant, aged 21, pleaded guilty to obtaining from 0. Smith, Ltd., goods to the value of £3 19s lOd by means of a false pretence, and with stealing a tie valued at 4s 6d, the property of C. Smith, Ltd. Sub-Inspector Lopdcll said that the accused knew that another woman had an account at 0. Smith's, and purchased some goods in that -woman's name. The accused did not know, however, that the other woman was in the habit of endorsing the docket so as to show which member of the family had purchased the goods, and when tho accountant saw the unendorsed docket he communicated with tin. other woman. While the goods were being recovered from the accused's house a tio was found, and she admitted that it had been stolen. The accused had been before the Court prior to her marriage on a charge of theft, and had been admitted to probation. After reading the Probation Officer's report, the Magistrate admitted the accused to probation for three years.
