Captain Matthews, who .is engaged in j a- solo flight to Australia, struck the full fury of the south-west monsoon on j his journey from Bangoou to Bangkok, I and he was, forced to descend. Tbe ! wing, tail, and "propeller of his _ aeroplane wero damaged, but tho airman was unhurt. Matthews carried a spare propeller, and hopes to continuo the flight when repairs aro effected, but the accident robs him of his chance of beating Hinkler's record for . the Australian flight.
