HAINES BEATS ARTIE HAY

Jack Haines (list 61b), middle-weight champion of Australia, easily defeated Artie Hay (lOst 131b), light-heavy champiou of New Zealand, in three rounds, at the Stadium.
In the first round the men appeared to be only sparring, but midway through the second Hay went down for eight. Haines renewed the attack viciously and the New Zealandcr went down for nine; he was on the floor again just as the bell rang. Haines started the third round_ by ■flooring his opponent with a heavy right \o the ribs, and the referee then stopped the fight. Hay was game and landed a few punches on the head, but never troubled Haines.
