The annual hockey tournament. I'm' Mm Phillpotts Cup between teams from tin: Wesley Club representing Chrislvhim.-li, Wanganui, and Wellington, was plnycd at Tanera Park on Saturday. Tim Welington team, which beat Auckland liwk year by 2 points to 1, again won the tournament with 4 points. Auckland wiw unable to compete this year.

All the games ,were very keenly contested, and although the piny was not exactly brilliant, it was very interesting.

The teams were: —

Christchurch.—L. Laycock, V. Bilclilt, D. Hayes, G. Kelly, E. Goodman, G. Westbrook, H. Armitage, S. Taylor, T. Glackin, J. Hayes, N. Queree. Wanganui.—H. Borwood, S. Hughes, G. Adams, J. O'Brien, J. Whyman, L. Biixton, L. Barlow, W. Hartnell, H. West, G. Warden, W. Barlow.

Wellington.—A. Thowley, W. Dykes, A. Barnngton, M. M'Dowell, 11. Pyle, It. Eagle, W. Watkinson, K. Strong, 11. Phillpotts, G. Rowse, A. M'Nair. The first game was between Wanganui and Christchurch, and resulted in a win for the former team by 4 goals to 1. From the initial bully Wanganui led the attack and kept up a steady pressure until the end of the game. In the first few minutes play was very exciting, and before long the Wanganui players had two goals to their credit, Barlow and West scoring. Wanganui continued to force the pace, and kept Christchurch continually on the defence. Just before half-time Queree (Christchurch) got possession of the ball from a scramble in midfield and passed to Taylor, who had no difliculty in scoring. In the second spell Wanganui again had the better of the play. A vigorous attack by the forwards resulted in Barlow getting possession and scoring for the second time. Up and down play followed until about five minutes before the final whistle went, when from a scramble on the^edge of the circle Hartnell brought Wanganui's score up to 4. The game ended: Wanganui 4, Christchurch 1. Mr. C. J. Casey was the referee. THREE GOALS TO PHILLPOTTS. The game between Wellington and Wanganui resulted in a win for Wellington by 4 goals to nil. Wanganui was the first to open up an attack, which the local backs were successful in checking. Wellington returned, and from a forward rush Phillpotts got possession and opened the score for his side. Wanganui rallied to test Wellington's defence, but the attack was checked before it got very far. The fortunes of the game varied rapidly, and each, side in turn had some narrow escapes. In the second spell Wanganui pressed hard, but could not penetrate the Wellington defence. For some time play fluctuated, with Wellington having slightly the better of the exchanges. A vigorous attack by Wellington ended up with Phillpotts scoring his second goal. Wellington forced the pace, and a few minutes before time Phillpotta scored again, and was followed less than a minute later by Rowse also scoring. The game ended: Wellington 4, Wanganui 0. There was little, if any, spectacular play in the game between Wellington and Christchurch. The game, however, was very keenly contested, and resulted in a win for Wellington by 4 goals to 2. The local players had the better of the game throughout, and did the bulk of the attacking. The game opened at a smart pace, with Wellington on the attack. From a scramble in midfield Watkinson got possession and scored from the edge of the circle. From the bully-off Christchurch sent the ball downfield, and in the ensuing play the ball was passed to Armitage, who scored. Wellington 1, Christchurch 1. The Wellington forwards carried the ball into their opponents' territory, and from a melee inside the circle Kowse scored a brilliant shot. The second spell opened with Wellington attacking strongly. From a penalty corner given against Christchurch, Phillpotts secured the ball and had a long shot at goal. The ball, however, just missed going into the net. Christchurch made a determined effort, but erratic shooting and lack of combination lost them many chances. Another attack by Wellington resulted in M'Nair scoring, and a few minutes later this was followed by Strong also sending the ball into the net. Christchurch ..rallied, and as a result Queree secured the ball and had a successful shot at goal. The game ended: Wellington 4, Christchurch 2. Mr. J. C. Cnsack refereed the second and third games.
