WOMAN- ASSAULTED
TROUBLE IN RESTAURANT
A fine of £5 was imposed on William; Moore r alias George Plaisted, tunneller, agca 26, by Mr. T. B. M'Neil, S.M.,"in the Magistrate's Court to-day, ,on. • a chargo of assaulting Bessie Durant.
Tho accused, who pleaded not guilty, was represented' by Mr. J. Meltzer. ',' Bessie Durant, wife of the proprietor of the Metropolitan restaurant,, said that about G. 45 p.m. on Saturday the' accused and some other men, came into' the restaurant. They started to anakc ■ a disturbance, and were ordered out ,by, the witness's husband. The men went' .downstairs, and when1 witness followed them to.soe that they did not come back! thp accused struck her twice.. • •
Albert Durant said that after tho .men had left ths restaurant and-gone downstairs he saw the accused strike "his wife in the eye.
" The accused, in evidence, denied, all knowledge of tho assault, and said that the only time he was in tho restaurant Ma's when the police took him there for tho purpose of identification.
Ths accused was convicted.and fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment. • ■■ r
On a charge of assaulting Jack Hill, an, assistant, in the. Metropolitan restaurant, Hector Pulley, tractor driver, aged 26, was convicted and fined &-, iv default seven clays' imprisonment.
