CHURCH OF ENGLAND SCHEME

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "Tho Evoning Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

A party of 21 English youths who intend to take up fanning in New Zealand arived by the lonic from London to-day. Their ages ranged from 15 to 18} years. Most of them havo been educated at English public schools, and some have had farming experience in England. Mr. M. Porterfield, of Christchureh, was in charge of the boys, who have been brought out under the Church of England immigration scheme.

The Archbishop of New Zealand was on the platform at Waterloo Station when 21 secondary school boys left to catch the lonic for New Zealand, (writes "The Post's" London correspondent). These lads were going out under the auspices of the Church of England Council of Empire Settlement, of which Earl Jellicoe is president. The secretary of the council (Mr. J. G. M'Dougall) received the Archbishop, who. said a few words to the party. Archbishop Averill mentioned that he was the chairman of the committee out in the Dominion, and he told the boys to remember, if they had any complaints to make, they should make them to tho committee, whom they would find their friends. They were going out to a country with rather different conditions from those here, but the people spoke their own language and were 99 per cent. British. They would have to work hard, but hard work never killed anybody. As his custom is, the secretary (Mr. M'Dougall) saw the boys off at Southampton. Mr. M. C. Portorfleld, a New Zealander returning home, is in charge of tho party.
