VACANT PROPERTIES
REBATE OF RATES
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland City Council and the local bodies 'have recently been acting on the opinion expressed by Mr. Justice Blair some months ago that owners of properties other than dwellings are not entitled to a rebate of half the rates when the premises have been vacant for six months. A committee representing property owners and the Koal Estate Institute has now been set up to have-the matter rectified by taking a case to the Court of Appeal, and if unsuccessful, to endeavour to have the law amended. It is contended that the obvious intention was to give the benefits of the rebate to all ownm of rented properties.
