HOSPITAL CONTROL

MR. R. C. BEGG'S CRITICISM

AUCKLAND COMMENT

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day.

Mr. K. Campbell Begg's criticism of the Dominion hospital control system met with varied comment in Auckland.

Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, said that Mr. Begg's statements were "absolute rubbish," and his proposals were the most undemocratic Mr. Wallace had ever heard of. < ■'

Dr. C. E. Maguire hospital superintendent, after denying that a number of the conditions complained of by Mr. Begg exist in the Auckland Hospital, said ho was afraid Mr. Begg was up against a stonewall when he talked of taking the control of the hospitals away from the local bodies.

Dr. Gunsou, a member of the board, agreed that the average stay of patients in the hospital was far . too long, and also with Mr. Begg's remarks regarding infectious wards. With the glaring defects in the system, he said, enough changes could be' made without turning things upside down.
