COMMERCIAL LIBRARY
The commercial branch or.' the Central Library has been opened with a very fair beginning of about 2000 yolumes and periodicals, which will be added to considerably when a consignment of books on business and technical subjects, now on order from England, arrives shortly.
To-day the room, at the top of the stairs opposite the main reference room, was very well patronised, largely, no doubt, because it is new, but there is no question that the department fills a real need.
It is proposed to install a telephone shortly in order that business people may havo points of difficulty and doubt inquired into without delay. This feature of telephonic inquiries has been found very useful and popular in commercial libraries in the Old Country, tho Chief Librarian, Mr. J. Norrie, told a "Post" reporter, and, he thought, would be utilised by many in Wellington. Probably it would be rather difficult to give a full service in reply to inquiries when tho scheme was first introduced, but as tho staff and users of tho library became more used to it, the value of the servico would increase.
