PETONE COUNCIL CRITICISED
Several Petone business men who were interviewed to-day expressed the opinion that the course adopted by the Petone Borough Council was a shortsighted one, and that even if the council was not in favour of amalgamation it was only right that the electors should have an opportunity of expressing their opinions. Mr. E. A. Hartley, an ex-eouiicillor, said he was Wholeheartedly in favour of amalgamation, but was afraid that the only way it would be brought about at the present time was by Act of Parliament, so strong were the unwarranted prejudices in some quarters. The unnatural barriers .at present dividing the district should bo abolished, and the district should speak with ono ,voice on all the questions1 coming bcjforo it.
