DOX'QGIXOTE AND OUR BIG
HANDICAPS
Last .season.; Don1 Quixote was a difficult pupil to 'extract satisfactory work from on the private tra^^b'ilt. with a fair amount of racing in. the autumn he showed considerable imprpverneiit, and finally ie won classical... honours by capturing the Great Northeri St. Leger; Generally looked on as a stayer, DoiiiQuixpte: carried the confidence 61 his tiPaiiiel* at Hastings last Saturday in-the AbbbrfefprdHandicap, run over a six ai}d':a,i..hJilf forlong course. Don Quixote.^:-'jpstv isome'ground in the early stages through inability; to muster up sufficient speed,-but, entering the straight, he started to move forward until he looked a decided ppssUiility, blit the. effort proved too much> and Don Quixote weakened into fifth place. V All things considered, the performance was-.quite a satisfactory One, and suggests this son of Paladin and Hornbeam playing a prominent .part in some of our big long-distance handicaps. Don Quixote is among those nominated for the comin'g'New Zealand Cup, and as he will be well seasoned before that important race is decided he may be the elect of the Jefferd stable.
