Mr. 3?. L. Brady returned to "Welling* ton by the Maunganui to-day.

Mr. W. Waddel, superintendent of State Advances, returned from. Auckland this morning.

Mr. J. Galbraith, * superintendent stevedore to the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., Ltd., at Dunedin, was a passenger by tho Maunganui, which, arrived, from Sydney to-day. . ~

"The Post's" Auckland correspondent telegraphs that Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M. r of Wellington, and Miss Hazel Barton,. returned by the lonic to-day^ after a. seven months' tour abroad. .

A cable has been received from London stating that Mr. Laurence Glover, an ex-Scots College boy, and late.of tho National Bank, Christchurch staff, has been accepted for training in. the Royal.- Air Force, and will commence training on 12th September.,

Mr. E. I. Haisled, managing director of the D.1.C., Ltd., and Hallensteia Bros., Ltd., accompanied by Mrs. Halsted, returned,to Wellington to-day by the Maunganui after spending three months' holiday in Melbourne, Sydney f and Brisbane. <

The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr. Mathew Walsh, a member of an. old Waikato family* at the age of ,73. Among the surviving sons are Messrs. J. Walsh and E. Walsh, of Wellington. One son, Lieutenant M. Walsh, was killed in France.

Captain W. N. Masefield, the prominent New Zealand rifleman, arrived at Wellington from Blenheim on 'Satmr* day,, and left with Mrs. Masefield for, Sydney by the Makura to-day. Captain ~ Masefield intends to compete ' at the annual meeting of the N6w Soutk Wales Eiflo Association in October. -
