THE COMPETITIONS

PLEASANT PROGRAMMES

TODAY'S SESSIONS

All the concerts of the Wellington Competitions Society's annual festival have been .well ■ attended to date, and the Town.' Hall is a very busy place at all hours of. the day.-' In spite of the many events .to be got off, and the unusually large number of, entries for most of these, the organisation-is proving most competent and the secretary, Mr. K. M'Lennan, should feel well pleased -with, the smooth way in which all his arrangements are being carried out. : ." ■■ ■ .

The evening sessions naturally--'draw the largest houses, for it is then that the finals' aro announced, and commented on by the judges. These evening programmes are especially well balanced,, vocal, dancing, elocutionary, and instrumental items all being included, and finding instant favour with the audience. To-night's numbers should be no exception. One of the most attractive items should be' the children's chorus of fifteen to twenty-five voices, for which four entries have been received. A recitation with a particular interest, as it is by a New Zealand author (S. S. Mackenzie), is "A Song of the Saddle," for which two recalls will be heard this evening, and a combined' ballet by pupils of" Mr. Joe Knowsley is expected, to be another colourful item.
