The Wellington Rugby Union's senior championships have concluded, and it is expected that unless something unusual happens in the lower grade matches to be played next Saturday, the majority of the lower grade championships will also be settled by that date. It Willie seen that in addition to the senior A grade, the Petone Club has practically won the junior and fifth grade competitions, while ihe club has a chance of coming out' on •op i- the third grade Petone also appear likely to be the runners-up in the fourth jnii sixth grades, a really fine performance for out; club. ; THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP. The club championship, however, which in recent seasons has regularly gone to Petone, has been won this season by Wellington, who have a larger number of teams taking part. Wellington have a lead of 35 points over Petone, with Atli letic another 65 points back in third place. The points given below were at the con elusion of last Saturday's games, the position in the club championship being as follows:— WfUliJton .... 212 Upper Hutl C 3 Fetone 177 Berhampore .. 01 Athletic 113 Technical 0.8. .40 Poneke 110 Moera '. 47 Oriental 107 Karori 47 Old Boys 107 Selwyu 30 Marisi 107 Institute 34 Miramar 106 Taita 31 Johnsouville ... 102 Kaiwarra .... 18 Hutt 89 Railway B 15 Ouslow SC Seatoun 10 Melrose 78 Training College 9 University .... 75 Porirua 0 Eastbourne ... 72 Scots 0.8. ...'. 6 JUNIOR GRADE. With a lead of three points over the next two teams, and with a game in hand, Petone are assured of the junior championship, which will close next Saturday. The Petone team has gone through the season unbeaten, having had one drawn game, while each of the nest three teams, Wellington A, Taita, and St. Patrick's Old Boys, has lost three games. Petone have_ scored more heavily than any other team in the grade, but some of their competitors have had fewer points scored against them. The points at present are: Points Ch. P. W. L. The third grade is still open, and it may 1)6 necessary for a play-oif between the leading teams to decide the winners, so that the result ma not be decided by next Saturday's games. Marist have a lead of two points over Petone, but have played one more game, and it appears that the issue lies between these two teams. Berhampore are also a point ahead of Peione, but have also played one-more game. Jlarist and Petone are practically level in jthe matter of points for and against. Points Ch. P. W. V. D. for. asst. The fourth, grade competition had not been long in progress before it became evident that there were only two teams in the running—Technical Old Boys and Petone. The latter team has a reputation for being strong in this grade, and has carried off the championship regularly in the past few seasons. This year, however, iv spite of their having put up a record of points for and against second only to that of the Wellington team in the senior B grade, they had to submit to defeat at the hands of Technical Old Boys, who have maintained an unbroken run of wins. Technical Old Boys have only to add another win to make the championship theirs. Points Ch. P. W. L. D. For. A&st. Pt3. The team has won all its games, and in doing so has scored 427 points, with only 20 against Each of the next two teams has evidently disposed of the sides it has met with little difiiculty. The sixth grade goes to Wellington, who have a lead of two points over Petone and a game in hand. Both these teams have won the majority of their games by big margins. The seventh grade appears likely to provide a close finish between Onslow and Melrose, the latter team having a game to make up, and being three points behind. Jolinsouville have the eighth grade in hand by virtue of a lead of three points There is a possibility of the positions in some of the age-limit grades being altered as the result of some of the teams having played boys over age.
