•A BLEAK DAY

(Duly the racing enthusiast was attracted to Awapuni yesterday, for a bleak wind of unreasonable persistency found every-corner of/the course. Naturally, the attendance was fairly' meagre, and the totalisator figures were £11,465. Considering there Were two events with pools of less than.,£looo, the weather conditions, and the Budget, the total was not so very bad. The surprising feature for racegoers was the perfect condition of the training track, | direct evidence that the district had escaped the worst of the weather. The jumping events were indescribably poor, Skyrider's effort in the Steeplechase being possibly one bright exception.
