Thomas) wrote that it was hoped that the "Wellington Board of College Governors "would agree in condemning the proposals for complete centralisation in Wellington and the abolition of local control in all matters of importance." As it was considered that the matter was .too important to discuss at an'ordinary meeting, it was decided on the motion of Mr. Mitchell, seconded by Mrs. Kane, to hold a«special meeting on Monday week to deal with it. • ' ■ W^JS A letter from the solicitors for the (State of the late Mr. James Hutchen enclosed a cheque,for £200, left to the trustees of the Wellington Boys' College by Mr. Hutehen to invest and use the .interest to provide either one or two annual prizes' lit the college, at the discretion of the headmaster. The prizes are to be given to the boy or boys most proficient in science, and the conditions of examination I'or them are to be prescribed by the headmaster. The prizes are to be known as the "Stanley Huteheu Science Prize" (or prizes), in memory of the late Mr. Hutchen's late sou. The board accepted the trust with pleasure, and decided, to write to Mr. ITutchen's family expressing appreciation of his interest m the school.
