DAYLIGHT SAVING
WANTED AT ONCE
POWER SHORTAGE ACUTK

HAMILTON, 11th July
A conference of provincial .power boards held at Hamilton decided, in viow of the urgency of the situation regarding power supply, to urge the Government to inaugurate daylight saving immediately to assist the position.
Mr. W. J. Holdsworth, chairman of the Auckland board, said £16,000 was being sent out of the country by bis board for coal supplies, but the money should be kept here, especially as there was coal here and thousands of men idle. It was mentioned that there were large stocks of accumulated coal at Huntly. Mr. Holdsworth said his board could get a limited supply of coal only for 40 per cent, increased cost. It was decided to urgo upon tho Government the necessity of seeing that reasonable supplies of coal were availablo at a reasonable price in an emergency such as this. The conference decided also to urge the Government to carry on tho work of installing the proposed steam plant at Huntly. \
