Virginian deer have agaiu paid a visit to Ulva Island, in Paterson's Inlet, Stewart Island, as fresh tracks were seen on the walks there recently. It is • a long swim of about a mile from the main shore to Ulva, and the fact that it was undertaken shows how curiously a desire for fresh feeding grounds luro the Virginian doer even in the icy winter waters. Twice previously when they swam across they did not make a long stay, but this time shortage of food on Iho mainland may induce them to take up residence permanently on the small iflancl. ,
