WOMEN WHO EARN BIG MONEY

Five women in one London advertising firm are receiving salaries in excess of that paid to any Cabinet Minister—that is, more than £3000 a year. AH begin in humble positions, says the "Western Mail."

"These young women," said Sir William Crawford, the controlling head of the business recently, "have themselves to thank for earning large salaries. They have had the same chances as men, but they did not neglect any of the opportunities that came their way. They have justified my belief that a woman can not only hold a responsible job, but do that job efficiently.1' One of the women, Mrs. liavindeu, joined the' staff as an office assistant at 30s a week. "I waited four years for the first great opportunity," she said. "A vacancy occurred in the executive, and I saw no reason why I should not

be given a chance. I asked for the job and got it. I was made a director 3is months ago." Sir William said: "These women pull their weight. Miss Sangater shares with a male member of my stafl the highest executive position in the agency. Mrs. Havinden's job is to co-ordinate the suggestions of a large staff employed on creating advertisements, while Miss Beid, as secretary of the company, is in charge of the books, and controls the finance department, under Miss Sangster's supervision. "Miss Murrell is the head of the space Imying department, working in co-oper-ation with those who decide where and to what extent goods shall be advertised, and Miss Zelinski,. as production manager, is responsible for the collection of advertising lay-outs and their 'preparation for the newspapers."
