DUNEDIN FOOTBALL NOTES
LINDSAY DTFOEM
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")
DUNEDIN, This Day.
D. I*. Lindsay, who made auch a. great name for himself in South Africa with the the New Zealand team a couple of years ago, has, been displaying great form in Otago football lately, and it seems a pity that he. was unable to take part in the All Black trials. Ia view of Nepia's brilliance, he could not bo expected to displace the dazzling Maori at full-back, but as centre threequarter many good judges consider him as good as the best. Last week he had a lield day for University A against Union, converting seven tries, kicking two penalty goals, and scoring a try from tho full-back position.
The senior competition is at an unI usually interesting stage. Alhambra has played consistently good football i throughout the season with one or two exceptions, and at present is one-point ahead of- its old rivals, Kaikorai; Pirates, University A, and University B being three points further back. University A started off badly, bat the side is now playing much more attractive football and is expected to improve its position in the second round ■which commences to-day."
Otago shaped very disappointingly against the British team, but the geneial opinicdi locally ia that a stronger team will be placed in the field against the several interprovincial sides that will visit Dunedin this season, It should be possible to field a smart set of backs, and the presence of Fookes, the University five-eighth, should add to the thrust of the rearguard. The half:baek is almost sura to be Francis, who shaped exceedingly ■well against Britain. The forwards should be a fairly even lot, - though unless one or two good country men can be found they will probably lack the weight of" former years.
