HERE AND THERE

Day Comet,

The'imported horse Day Comet, who is j now at Sir Charles Clifford's Stonyhurst stud, is making a great name as a sire of jumpers. Last August at Kiccarton two of his progeny, Wiltshire, and Mangani, won the Grand National double. Mangani won the Wellington Steeplechase this week- with Aurora Borealis, also by Day Comet, in second place. His stock bred at Stonyhurst will be prepared in the first instance for flat racing, but with the weeduig-out that takes place each season at the Chokebore Lodge stables it is probable that some of them will be tried out later by other southern owners as jumpers. Belated afld Small Return. When the Adelaide enthusiast, Mr. E. E. Jolly, first launched out as an owner a few seasons ago he spent something like £5000 in horseflesh, one of his most expensive purchases being Jet Black, who cost 1400 guineas as a yearling. Jet Black, who at one time was trained at Trentham by. J. Lowe, now a four-year-old, won his first race recently, a novice event worth £20. Jet Black did his early racing in New Zealand. W. D. Moroney at Wanganui. W. D. Moroney • arrived at Wanganui on Thursday with seven members of his team, Vertigern, Count Palatine, Tenterden, . Kalmuk, Appledove, Grecian, Richborough, the rising two-year-old brother to Tenterden. The reason for the change over is the customary one of superiority of the winter training tracks at Wanganui. One Sold. Since Jatniesoiv's arrival in Sydney (lie sale of the rising three-3'ear-old filly Wild Time (Catmint—Shebang) has been effected. It is understood that she will do her future racing at unregistered meetings. Without winning, Wild Time raced well up to six furlongs and she will only have to reproduce the speed she showed in the Avondale All-aged Stakes to do well at the ponies. Odds and Ends. The Awapuni trainer I!. E. J-latcli contemplates a trip to Kiccarton for the Grand National Meeting nest month with Hymestrason unless the lameness has prevented it. It is possible, however, that this promising steeplechaser will change owners in the meantime, as he is under offer for sale at present. The brilliant Australian miler Molli6on, who failed in the Derbies after a sensational two-year-old career, has returned to the care of F. Foulsham at Caulfield. Mollison is reported to be very fresh and healthy after a good spell. Several of the New Zealand trainers at present in Sydney may be represented at the Rosebill Meeting to-day. Members of their teams who have been nominated include Borsalene, First Acre, King March, Sargon, Spearmiss, In the Shade, Greenmantle, Werata, ami Atholspear. The Auckland-owned juvenile Full Measure has also been entered for the meeting. It is reported that J. Munro intends returning to Australia when his contract in Germany expires in October.
