DEAR ONES
In spite of chilly fingers and tingling toes ... in spite of rain-dropping winds and snow-bearing storms . . . you did love the Wintry Page in all Us shiveryness. But o! the bit you and I and all of us liked best wasn't a wintry part at all—it was the one bit of summer in the whole page. • ' Yes, the picture . .... and the precious paintings you made from it. The little Princess was not very easy, especially when her fly-away frock was tinted rose and gold and misty blue, as some of you managed to make it, .and the sky a glow of sunset and loveliness, and the twisted tree, an autumn pillar of brown . . . And when I had looked at all the Princesses once, twice, and again, I found the best ... and the-two next best .. . and a Specially Excellent one painted by a nine-year-old. And these are they: Saucy Sally's is the first; then Odtaa's and Betty Blow's; and lastly, small Mulga's, of Lower Hutt. There were others, too—by Rory O'Moore and Peter Pan, Lady Rowena and Irish Mary, Wendy,:lrene Hamel, and' Athalie Eaton. Every one of these was a darling; but the "Postie" cannot visit you all . . . Saucy Sally and Odtaa, I'am expecting you at the Fairy Ring. Days heaped with happiness to you all, my elves. ( ainißiiiiiiniaiiiiißiiaiaM^
