ENTERTAINING "FIGURES,
There is almost an Unlimited fund of entertainment' as well as interesting information to be ■ gained- in '"a study of figures, though when met with in certain business matters (in an excessive income tax demand, for instance) the amusing side is perhaps not obvious. Here is a little curiosity con cerning the number seventeen, which can-be followed up with interesting results, and; other numbers discovered having, similar features. If seventeen be multiplied by itself, and the result again multiplied by it, the product will bo '' und to consist of the figures, which when added together, will total seventeen. There are several other examples, four,of them being under thirty,' and the time spent in finding them will be well worth while, a half hour or so passing perhaps before the discoveries are made. Does the reader know these curious numbers?
