! MILAN, 14th June. In the semi-final of the European zone Davis Cup contests, Stefani (Italy) beat H. Hopman (Australia), 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2; De Morpurgo (Italy) defeated J. Crawford (Australia), 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. . ■ Both singles were played under most trying conditions owing to tho crowd barracking and anticipating the linesmen's decisions, calling out before the ball touched the ground, which was most disconcerting to Hopman. Stefani played an excellent game, and his passing shots were exceptionally strong. Crawford was not at the top of his form. '
