TROTTING CLASSIC

WELL-BRED WINNER

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post") , CHRISTCHUKCH, This Day. Arethusa, who won the Sapling Stakes at Ashburton on Saturday, was bred by her owner, Mr. H. F. Nicoll, and is a sister to the well-performed Wrackler, being by Wrack from Trix Pointer. She is small, but.she shows a good deal of quality, and she stays well. She paces somewhat low to the ground liku Wrackler, but goes fast without much apparent effort. Gold Chips, the runner-up, is on the small side, but is a smart filly. It was her first start in a race, and to go 3min 25 4-ssec, and then get- beaten demonstrates how hard it is sometimes to win. Red Shadow, the favourite, was always well placed, but he collapsed two furlongs from home in a very disappointing fashion. No.' excuses could be offered for his failure. Goldworthy, the second fancy, went really well most of the way, but failed over the final furlong just where it was expected she would shine.
