In the senior A grade most iuterest centred in the meeting of Petoue and Hutt at Athletic Park, and the game bad many stirring moments,' although the open order was not seen to the extent expected. Petone played a more solid type of game than that of Hutt, whose general performance was marred by the unreliability of several players. The appearance of A. E. Cooke and M. I?. Nicholls, the respective captains, was in itself an attraction, and both players were seen to advantage., Petone were the better team, on the day, and won by a margin, of four points. A curtainraiser to this game was provided by Wellington- and Selwyu, a senior B' contest which1 became a very one-sided afi'air, Wellington winning by the huge score of 60 points to nil. Marist and Athletic met on Newtown Park, the former holding stoutly to a lead of twelve points in the first spell and maintaining their high place, with Petone; on the championship ladder. Eastbourne; found Poneke a tough proposition at Petone, the town i team winning fairly comfortably. After their surprise win over Petone, University faded away and went under to Oriental in a closely-contested game at Kelburn Park. Old Boys were too good for Berh'ampore at Wakefield Park. The senior A grade championship points are:—Petone 12, Marist"l2, Old Boys 11, Athletic 0, Eastbourne 9, Hutt ft, Poneke 7, Oriental 7, Berhampore 2, University 2.
