LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

Mrs. Hhulmarsh presided over Wednesday's meeting of the Island Bay-Bei-hamporo branch of-the League of Mothers at the bowling green pavilion. Atter tho opening exercises all joined in singing the Mothers' Hymn, as printed in the magazine. Mrs. Hindmarsh introduced arid welcomed Mrs. Rollings, the speaker for tho afternoon who gave an address on "The, Palace Beautiful. The "palace," she said, was divided into four rooms and in each room was found a clr'd, and every one was the parent of one or more of these children. In the first room was found,""the child that never was," or the .-child of one s fancy, and she illustrated this by a classical story. In the second room was found "the child, that was," or the child -of-one's memory; in tho third room was "the child that is," with ambition, curiosity, and imagination to be trained; and in the fourth room was "the child that is to be." Mrs. Hindmarsh thanked Mrs. Boilings'for her helpful address. Miss Mann gave a vocal solo, which was greatly enjoyed. Afternoon tea was handed round, and several new members were enrolled. ■

Tho Upper Hutt branch of the League o' Mothers held its monthly meeting this week, when Mrs. S. Koger (president) wap in the chair. Seventeen mothers were present. Sister Lees, of the Wellington Red Cross Society, assisted by Mesdames Smith, Edwards, and Stroud (of the Upper Hutt branch1), gave a demonstration on home-nursing and firstaaitd t which was much.appreciated. Sister Lees. also spoke briefly on the Bed Cross peace time activities, especially mentioning the wor* of tho Women's Auxiliary Committee in relief work cases, distribution of garments, etc. A hearty yoto of thanks was accorded Sister Lees and her helpers.
