WAR DEBT TO BRITAIN

RUGBY, 22nd May.
Replying to a question in the Houso of Commons, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Snowdcn, said that the sum due by the Government of Eussia to this country on 31st March - last amounted to £900,000,000. Up to the present no' suggestion had been received'from the Soviet Government regarding the funding of this debt, but it would bo amongst the questions to be discussed in the negotiations with the Soviet.Government, which were to take place shortly. Tho money lent to Russia during the war was borrowed by tho British Government at over 5 per cent.,- and the annual sum now paid by, the taxpayers in the interest accordingly amounted to over £45,000,000.
