BOATSWAIN KILLED
STRUCK BY A BEAM
ACCIDENT AT TIMARU

TIMARU, This Day
John Heffermau, aged 44, boatswain on tho steamer Kalingo, whiei. berthed this morning, was killed when ho was struck by a heavy piect of timber which was being lowered to the wharf.
Two beams were being hauled ■ loar of the hold when one suddeuly swung round, crushing Hofferman against one of tho cabins.. He was terribly injured on the head, and expired in a few minutes.
It is understood that the deceased was a married, man, his home being/ in Sydney.
