"EIGHT" FOR EMPIRE GAMES.
I On Saturday night the oarsmen of Wellington are holding a "joy night" in the Town Hall to raise funds for the expenses of sending the New Zealand eight-oared crew to the Empire Games in Canada. The crew chosen for the Olympic Games was unable to get away owing to lack of funds, and in view of the practically unbeaten record by the New Zealand oarsmen overseas, it is felt that every effort should be made to send the latest "eight" away. Rowing in New Zealand is at a very high standard at the present time, and the men chosen are the. cream of the Dominion. Apart from the merits of the appeal, however, the organisers of "joy night" consider that the function itself will prove thoroughly enjoyable to all who attend.
