UNEXPLAINED ACCIDENT

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. A five-seater motor-car was discovered at 11.30 last night suspended over tho parapet of the bridge over the Tamaki River, south of Otahuhii. The front portion of the body had broken through the parapet, and was overhanging the water. Tho left-hand _ front door of the ear was open, and in the water directly below was found _ a man's overcoat. The police were informed, but when they arrived on the scene there was no trace of an occupant of the car. A search party was organised and the river and surroundings were searched, but no further clues were found. The car contained traveller's samples, and a bankbook beariug the name Duthie.

It was ascertained this morning that the driver of tho car was Alexander Duthie, aged 38, a prominent business man of Waiuku. Before entering business at Waiuku ho was a departmental manager of a firm in Christchureh. He is a married man with one child. At the time of the accident Mr. Duthie was-.motoring to meet his brother, Mr. R. T. Duthie, arriving by train from Dunedin.
