A LATER SESSION?

POSTPONEMENT NOT NECESSARY

It has been suggested that in view of the crisis caused by the resignation of the Prime Minister, and the possible overhaul of Cabinet and party policy as the result of a change in the leadership, the Government may require time to prepare its legislative programme, and that it will therefore bo neeesseary for the opening of Parliament to be postponed to allow a reasonable opportunity for determining legis-lation-and putting it into legal form. If the leadership question is decided to-day, the new Prime Minister and his colleagues should be installed in office by.next week, and little more than a month will remain before the ordinary time for the meeting of Parliament.

From inquiries made to-day in an authoritative source, it is not considered likely that any 'postponement of the usual date for the opening of the session will foe found necessary.

It is .said that the Government has sufficient legislation of a nature not lively to be affected by possible deviations from policy to occupy Parliament for about six weeks, and that in any case the sessional preliminaries will allow time for the drafting of essential Bills. ■
