WINGATUI TRACK NOTES

He jumped best when the pace was on, and gave H. Anderton a nice ride.. This horseman will ride him in the' Otago Steeplechase in which he promises to be hard to beat. Tardy and Sudden Storm were companions over six furlongs in lmin 26sec. Ballance and Salmo Salar took lmin 10 sec to cover,five, furlongs. Strongbow and Captivate ran five furlongs, also on the outside of the grass in lmin 9 4-ssec. : Overhaul is. reported to have made a good recovery from the injury to his stifle, received while schooling before the Southland Meeting. He had not been worked'for some days," and is an unlikely starter in the Otago Steeplechase. Kapuna is another jumper that is an unlikely starter in the meeting and-may require another long spell. He has been "bleeding after his work each morning. His trainer thinks this may be the result of a fall he had on the second day of the Riverton Meeting. C. Giescler will not take his team to the Ashburton Meeting. They are all" doing well, but the fixture is tno close to the big meeting here. s Francolin, who has been enjoying a long spell,' will be taken in hand again shortly by if. Shaw. The six-year-old Shipshape, by Boniforin from. Kilcalni, half-brother to Te Awhina, is to join F: Shaw's stable. Last1 season he won a hurdle race on the West Coast. Shaw recently'purchased two rising three-year-olds, a bay gelding by Tractor from Gay Flower, and .a black gelding by Fleetham from an Applegarth mare.
