HEAD ON SMASH
MAN KILLED, GIRL INJURED
TWO CARS i"WRECKED

HAMILTON, This Day
Two people were injured, one fatally, in a head-on collisiojn 'between two cars on the Ilainilton-Mojrnnsville road, near Newstcad, four mSes'from Hamilton, about 10 o'clock Imst evening." Thomas B. Shaw, 23,. sou of; Mr. David Shaw, a farmer of Tauwhaire, was killed, and the injured victim is1 Winifred Handle, aged 19, d.augliton of Mr. P. Kandle, assistant manager' of the Matangi Glaxo Factory. She has' a fracture of tho base of the; skull, and other head injuries, and her condition is grave. The car was driven by H. Shaw, of Tauwharo, a cousin of the deceased, and was oecupiied by T. Brown, Miss Handle, and the .deceased. Going in the direction of iHamilton, it collided head-on with a -ear driven by L. H. Monteith, a farmer of Eureka, who was accompanied5 by his brother, A. F. Monteith. Tho Mtonteiths are members of tho Marist senior Kugby team 'at Hamilton, and •wiire returning from a football practice Miss Bandle aud T. Shaw suffered tJfoocking head injuries, from^which thejlatter died at 3.30 this morning. Both'cars were extensively damaged.
The deceased:-and Miss Kandle were in tho back srat. In view of Iho tangled wreckage, the other "occupants of the cars hairi miraculous escapes; Apart from minor bruises, scratches, and shock, nono of them were hurt. The night was foggjyand Mr. Sbaw'is said to have-been da-zzled by the headlights of an approaching car.
