FINAL MATCH OF SERIES

AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON

j A strong Auckland representative cricket team arrived in Wellington to- ! day to engage with Wellington in the final match of this season's Plunket Shield series. Auckland secured j*6ssession of the shield last season on averages, and the northern repiesentatives are doing their utmost to retain the 'trophy. In order to do this it will be necessary for Auckland to score an outright win, as on the points' system in vogue this season Wellington has a load of four points. For an outright win eight points are awarded, and for a win on the first innings the winners gain four points and the losers two. Wellington's representatives have been hard pressed in winning both of their previous shield matches this season, but managed in each case to score an outright win, giving Wellington a total of 16 points. Auckland scored heavily against Otago and Canterbury, but had to be content with a win on the first innings against Canterbury, which made their total 12 points. Canterbury and Otago have completed their engagements, Canterbury scoring 10 points and Otago failing to register any points. There is always great interest in matches between Auckland and Wellington, and the match to commence at the Basin Keserve at 11 a.m. to-morrow will be no exception to the rule.
