Mr. Justice Blair returned to Wellington last evening from Gisborne and Napier.
Mr. G. G. Steward, publicity manager of the Railways, is at present actingcommercial manager, Mr. D. Rodie, who holds that position, being on the fttk list.
Mr. William. Morley, 'late managing director of Messrs. Mason, Struthers, and Co.-, Ltd., Christehurch, and formerly manager of Messrs. Briscoe and. Co., Ltd., Wellington, has joined the board of directors of Messrs. A; and T. Burt, Ltd., Dunedin.
Mr. T. Paterson, for . -twenty-eight years driver of the Chnstchurcli-Dun-edin express, retired on Saturday, after having completed 40 years' service with the Railway Department. Mr. Pater* son entered the service as a boy nearly, forty years ago, and, following the usual procedure, began as a cleaner. This is equivalent to an apprenticeship, and during the next year or two; he learnt something of the engines that he was later to control. He then went out on the road a 9 a fireman, and, in 1902, was' appointed driver. .-, Three months later he was given-an 'express, and has remained 'on-the fast trains ever since. Mr. Paterson's run has always been on part of the Christ-church-Dunedin line, principally between Christehurch and . Timanl -or Oamaru.
