Police cases in the Magistrate s Court today were dealt with-by Mr. E. Page, S.M. His fifth statutory offence o£ drunkenness. cost. Maurice,O'Neill, alms Charles Daly, alias James/Cole, aged 37, £2, in default seven days' imprisonment. James Henry Aisher, aged 40, was convicted and discharged for bcmg drunk; fined £1 for casting offensive matter m Cuba street; and fined 10s for committing a breach of his prohibition order. Detault was fixed, at.three days' imprisonment. # "You've got a substantial list of previous convictions,", said the Magistrate to Sydney Spragg, alias Stanley Jones, aged 30, when sentencing him to three months hard labour. Spragg had pleaded guilty to stealing a piece o£ tavy blue serge, valued at £5, the property of Hilda Peirce. Chief-Detective Lopdell said that the accused was staying at the boarding-house of the complainant when he stole the serge. He sold it to a barman who had since sold it again, and the police had been unable to trace it. A young married woman, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty to the theft of a diamond ring, valued at £5. bhe was convicted and was ordered to come up for sentence within twelve months it called upon, a condition being made that she reimburses the second-hand dealer to I whom the ring was sold for £1 10s.
