WILD LIFE IN PAPUA
An interesting account of - life in Papua, both in' the towns and in the interior, is given by Alice Jeannetta Keelan in "The Land oil Doliori" (Angus and Kobertson, Sydney). Mrs. Keelan is the wife of a Resident Magistrate, and to her have fallen stranger adventures than usually fall to the lot of a white woman. She makes no pretensions to literary' style, but tells her story in a plain, matter-of-fact way, which makes it all the more realistic. There is a wealth of detail in the book —perhaps too much to hold the close attention of the average reader -^but to those who are interested in life in the outposts of Empire it will make a big appeal.
