Wo have on all sides received evidence of the cordial interest of the British Empire in our own efforts, more particularly in Now Zealand, which has from tho beginning extended to the expedition tho utmost hospitality and courtesy. . While wo are not yet keenly apprehensive over our predicament, which potentially is quite serious, I am naturally attempting to leave undone nothing that would ensure the safety of my men."
