RECIPROCAL PLEDGE

(From "Th^e Post's" Representative.) i LONDON, 2nd February. * The Foreign Office haß issued the text of the Notes exchanged between! the British and Soviet Bussian Governments reciprocally renewing the following pledge contained in Article 16 of the 1924 Treaty between the two Governments. "Tho contracting parties solemnly affirm their desire and intention to live in peace aiul amity with each other, scrupulously to respect the undoubted right of .:t Stato to order its own life within jits own. jurisdiction in its own way, to refrain' and to restrain all persons and organisations under their direct or indirect control, including organisations in receipt of financial assistance from them, from any act overt or covert liablo in any way whatsoever to endanger the tranquility or prosperity of any part of tho territory of the British Empire' or the Union of Soviet Socialist Eepublics, or intended to embitter tho relations of the British Empire or.the Union with their neighbours or anyl other countries." Tho text of a Note verbal by the Soviet Ambassador in London and the reply thereto of the British Foreign Minister are also issued, stating that the Soviet Government considers the pledge as extending to the Dominions —Canada, Australia, New Zealj^d, • South Africa, tho Irish Free State, m£ Newfoundland —and that the Dominion Governments in their turn have accepted the obligations of the pledge.
