LIGHT MISTY RAIN

WEATHER FOR WEEK-END

Dull and misty conditions prevail over all the North Island, on the south side of Cook Strait, and on the east coast of the South Island as far south as Christchurch. Eain is general over this area, but in the Wellington district and the parts of the South Island concerned it is of a light and misty character. In the north there have been many very heavy falls. Tauranga reports 370 points and East Capo 130 points. The portions of tho South Island not mentioned previously have continued to experience fine weather. Temperatures have been sultry in the North Island, but cooler in the South. Tho rain is duo to the cyclone' referred t.j yesterday as being in tho Tasman Boa, and which has moved very little.

Southerly winds wore tho rulo over tho South Island yesterday, but. they havo since backed to east and northeast in most places. Elsewhere northerly winds have prevailed, and in the far north they were strong. In Auckland there has been almost continuous rain, at times very heavy. Winds have been north-easterly. At Wellington, yesterday was dull with a fresh south-easterly breeze, and this morning a light drizzle commenced about 9 o 'clock. At Christchureh yesterday morning was dull, but the afternoon was sunny. During the evening a mist rolled in from the east, and there has been a light drizzia at times since. Aftor a cloudy early morning yesterday, Dunedin has . experienced fine weather. Temperatures were everywhere moderate.

The forecast is for north-cast to northerly winds strong at times north of Westport and Kaikoura, but light to niodorato elsewhere. Tho weather will probably remain fair over the westom and southern portions of the South Island, but elsewhere dull and misty conditions with rain are to bo expected. Very heavy falls are likely in tho north, with thunder at places.
