THE TARZAN NOVELS.
Edgar Rice Burroughs, orginator of the "Tarzan" novels, brought out his first story in 1914. He had written it on odd scraps of paper at odd times while ie was working as a department manager of a Chicago mail order firm. His first book was a phenomenal success, and other books about the jungle hero appeared in rapid succession. It is reported that the Burroughs books, including popular reprints, are now selling at tho rale of a million copies a year. Newspaper strips mado from tho Tarzan series arc- now appearing in 67 I papers.in tho United States and Canada, and a new Tarzan motion pictureis be rclesod this autumn. Mr. Burroughs himself has led an adventurous life. Ho has been at various times a cowboy, a cavalryman, a gold minor, a storekeeper, and a railroad policeman.
