WELLINGTON'S TEAM

The deciding match of this season's Pluuket Shield series will be commenced at the Basin Eeserve next Friday, when Wellington will meet the present holders, Auckland. In view of the fact that Wellington has scored two outright" wins over the southern provinces against Auckland's one outright win and a win on the first innings, the holders will need to beat Wellington outriglit in order to retain possession of the Shield. To this end a splendid team has been selected to represent Auckland; in fact, it has; the appearance of being one of the strongest ever chosen to visit Wellington. This will add greatly to the interest in the match,' which promises to provide cricket even better than that in the representative machos already played in Wellington this season. The match is to commence at 11 a.m. on Friday, and the adjournments will be from 1 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. (luncheon) and 3.45 p.m. to 4 p.m. (tea). Four days are allotted for the match, and the hours of play will be the samei for each day. . . ' Wellington's team for the match has been selected by Mr. W. S. Brice as follows:—• : ■. - ■■■■■■ T. M'Girr (Hutt). . N. Galliehan (Manawatu). .. H. B. Massey (Wairarapa). M. Henderson (Institute). From the players who were chosen to practis in view of the match the selector has omitted R. H.-C. Mackenzie, W. A. Baker, S. Ward, W. F. Airey, and E. D. Blundell, and he has brought in Galliehan, who has previously represented Wellington' and New Zealand. The side is undoubtedly a strong one, although some of the players are due for an improved showing in this season's representative matches. The absence of Badcock has no doubt accounted to some extent for the inclusion of both Galliehan and Massey in order to keep the bowling at good. . strength. Baker did exceptionally well as a slow bowler in the Otago-Wellington match, and Ids work in that connection at Punedin will be entrusted to M'Leod in the Auckland-Wellington match. For Wellington against M.C.C. M'Leod bowled with considerable, success, as' did another slow bowler, H. N. Lambert, for Wellington against Canterbury.
