HOSPITAL SERVICE
APPRECIATIVE LETTERS
At a mooting of the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday, the chairman (Mr. C. M. Luke) referred to a letter which had appeared in the "Evening Post" of the previous day, signed "Five Months' Patient," criticising the quality of some of the food supplied to patients, and method of service. Only that day, said Mr. Luke, three cxpatienta of tho Hospital had written letters expressing their appreciation of tho treatment they had received in the Hospital. The writers of those letters wore Messrs; B. Sunley, E. G. Kelly, and E. Clark. In addition to these, the following letter had been sent to the board:— "Dear Sir,—l have read with interest the letter appearing in to-night's "Evening Post," with your reply. I cannot adequately 'express my gratitude to tho board for the treatment I received during the ten weeks I was a patient in ward 9, and for the further period of eight weeks when I was a daily visitor to the out-pationts' department. "I did not need tho assurance of Dr. Eobcrt Stout that only skilled nursing and constant attention from, the medical and nursing staff saved my life. "Please convey to tho medical superintendent and his staff, and the matron and her staff my humble appreciation of their services during the time I was under their care. I told Mr. and Mrs. K. Semple, who visited the ward on Christinas Day, that even if they had th.j skill they could not do more for any member of their family than the Hospital staff were- doing for me. "Tho food as prescribed by tho dietitian and prepared by the kitchen staff was excellent in quality and generous an supply, and was entirely suitable to my disordered body. "* am o£ opinion that the writer in "The Post" under the norn de plumo of '.Five Months'' Patient' is not so much suffering from a disordered body as a shocking lack of common decency. . . . To the members of the board I send my heartiest congratluations for your services to the community, and best wishes to the staff, who are so excellently supporting you.—Yours sincerely, Ernest E. 'Wliytc."
