VISITORS AT THE WICKETS

The Piunket Shield match between Otago and Wellington commenced at Carisbrook this morning in dull but line weather. Tho wicket is easy, improving as the day progressed.- The outfield was slow. Wellington won the toss and batted. Baker and Foley opened, tho former taking strike to Dunning. Baker hit tho third ball to the leg boundary ■ neatly, but was caught off tho next ball by Knight in tho slips, 4—l — i. Hollings was the new batsman. Runs came slowly. Dunning and Elmes, bowling steadily, gave tho batsmen few opportunities. The fielding was keen, jw.hen the total was 25, Lemin replaced. Dunning. Lemin is making his first appearance in Shield cricket. He sent down very accurate balls. Alloo then replaced Elmes. An hour's play produced 40, Hollings being 26 and Foley 4. Lemiu, having bowled seven overs for eight singles, was relieved by Moloney. >'oley, batting doggedly, xeached double figures in seventy minutes. Hollings was more aggressive, but anything above a single was very .exceptional. When Foley was 15 he wade a weak stroke to an off break from Moloney and dragged it on to his wickets. 61—2—15. Lowry came in. When the total was 72 Duunnig replaced Alloo and Lcmin replaced Moloney. Lemin's first ball ■was responsible t!ov the fall of Hollings, who was at the crease 87 minutes. 76—3 —46. Cameron was the next batsman. It ■was raining lightly, necessitating the use of sawdust. The new combination played carefully, and did not brighten the gamo to any extent, but three 4's :©ff Dunning by Cameron brought up •100 in 113 minutes.
